About Me
Michael Biondo has served as a Social Science teacher since 2003 and as an Instructional Coach since 2009 at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, Illinois. He is a US History teacher in a 1:1 Chromebook environment. Working with a colleague, he previously implemented a 3-semester iPad cart pilot to investigate best practices with assessment tools on mobile platforms.
He coordinates and facilitates student participation in the Chicago Metro History Fair, the local affiliate of the National History Day competition, and has had 3 students selected to compete at the national level with documentary videos that they researched and produced.
In his instructional coaching role, he provides one-on-one coaching to teachers, facilitates peer coaching teams, leads staff development programs and workshops, and co-directs a district-wide action research cohort that is in its 5th year. He is a Google for Education Certified Trainer. He received Cooperative Learning Leadership training from Roger and David Johnson, Co-Directors of the Cooperative Learning Center at the University of Minnesota, and used that knowledge to help establish the teacher-led, District 207 Cooperative Learning Program in 2005.
In the summers of 2015 and 2016, he served as the Master Teacher for a 4-week National Endowment for the Humanities Institute on the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, collaborating with the project team to help teachers from across the United States design primary source-driven inquiry arcs for their classrooms based on best practices in historical literacy and the C3 standards.
He earned his BA in History at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. He earned an MA in History from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, and an MA in School Leadership from Concordia University Chicago.
Michael was named Illinois Computing Educators (ICE) “Classroom Educator of the Year” in 2015. He was named the Illinois Behring National History Day (NHD) "Teacher of the Year, Senior Division," in 2016.
