The Future of the Past

Course description

US History is the study of the history of our country. The course covers the eras from the Colonial Period to the end of Reconstruction during the first semester. The second semester covers the “long 20th century,” from the late 1800s to the 1990s. Studying this history goes far beyond memorizing dates, people, places, and events, but does rely on a firm knowledge base of the past. Actively engaging in the study of the written record of the past, developing arguments about history, crafting narratives about historical topics and trends, and using evidence from historical sources will allow students to DO the work of historians.

In this course, students will cooperatively work together to learn and explore material by:
-Asking and answering questions
-Conducting research

-Studying primary and secondary sources.
